Spain Under-19s coach Denia impressed by work at VCF Academy

Spain Under-19s coach Santi Denia has spent the past few weeks with Valencia CF players Ferran Torres and Hugo Guillamón, overseeing 'La Rojita's charge towards Euro 2019 glory. After a successful summer tournament, he spoke to VCF Media to talk about the duo's performances.
"I remember in March we played in the Elite Round against the Netherlands, one of the tournament favourites. We have grown a lot since then; this was a competition in which the best compete, and if you want to be European Champions then you have to beat them," said Denia.
"This generation are going to reach Under-21 level within two years, although I think that some of the players from this summer's squad are going to be promoted soon for the next tournament."
Talking about the two Valencia CF players, he commented that "I've spent four years with Ferran and Hugo and I know them as if I were their father, as we've been so close together all this time."
"These two from Valencia CF have given us a lot: Ferran hasn't only provided goals, but also been a reference for others to follow and always worked with a smile. Hugo has been an example due to his leadership. They are two very important players."
"It's not a coincidence that Marcelino has used Ferran as a starter. He is working very well and has had a great year at the highest level. I don't get involved in any decision, but any investment that Valencia CF make in their academy is going to go well, because they have very good players and are doing really good work."
Praising the VCF Academy, Denia expressed his admiration for how the club bring through young players.
"The VCF Academy is an example to follow on a national level. Every academy in Spain has taken a step up, and we have benefitted from it. I'm lucky enough to know about the VCF Academy from the inside, I've got to know it, visited and been explained how they work there. They are going to provide top level players, with extraordinary preparation for the first team."
